Deacon Gary Hoare

Inside Out

Hello everyone

I’m Gary,

the Methodist Deacon serving in the Nidd Valley Methodist Circuit.

Methodists work in Circuits. You will see from this website the Circuit with all its different churches.

My Role

is a pioneering role with new housing estates seeing what is happening and trying to gather new communities, which includes spiritual communities. With most of the new estates there are no community facilities such as a hall.

I am trying to identify what the needs of people are on these new developments and establish if there is anything we can do to assist

I am looking for places where new residents meet, hoping to get to know who people are.

Our vision is to help everyone feel part of a good community and so my logo says what we hope you will discover…

There are other things that I am involved in. I regularly lead services in Methodist Churches, I am volunteer with Netmakers Youth Drop-in at Wesley Church, Harrogate on a Friday afternoon.

I am looking at what we can do to meet as many people as possible, and help people to understand that God cares for them. I have been to other churches in Harrogate to connect with them, to find out where members have come from.

I want to meet people who live on new estates around Harrogate and Knaresborough and work with you to create true communities.  I am particularly looking at estates around A59 Watling and Malham, Whinney Lane and the neighbouring Yew Tree area, and King Edwin Drive.

We are doing this because we are a church that wants to share outside in the community. We have a lot to offer with friendships, listening ears and links to organizations that can benefit many people.

Moving into a new place is stressful and it can be a lonely time, it isn’t easy connecting with people, so it maybe we can provide a place for you to meet.

Along with creating new communities, we also pray for you and these places to live, that you will know God’s peace as you find your feet and settle in.

We all know that our lives are busy, so we want to encourage you just to spend some time relaxing and we have ways to help you do that, some of which include getting close to God through Jesus Christ.

There is a verse in the Bible which says:

‘Here I am, I stand at the door and knock.  If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to eat with you.’ Revelation 3:20.

It’s about welcoming God in and it is also about God being hospitable.  It’s a very powerful verse, that God wants to get to know us and wants to share our deepest moments, it is as close as eating with a friend.

Welcome to this page. More will follow shortly. If you want to get in touch please contact me through my email: gary.hoare@methodist.org.uk

Many thanks for your interest

Yours sincerely

Deacon Gary Hoare

12th August 2026

‘Methodist Church Day of Outreach’ is happening on the 12th of August 2026 – the day of the Eclipse– click here for details:

This photo (below) was taken earlier in the year at Kearby, when I was asked to play for the Pet Service, which was outdoors. I think there was a threat of rain so we used a gazebo…we sang some hymns, heard prayers and a talk about pets and creation.  It was a well-attended and we had a mixture of dogs and pets, there was even sheep in a lorry out on grass verge. It was definitely ticking the Inside Out box!!

This photo (above) was taken December 2024. Below are the bags and Knitted Angels we made this year (2025). We were able to use a Charity Stall on December 6th for 2 hours in the afternoon.  We gave out bags with many things in to do with Christmas.  we were there representing the Nidd Valley Methodists.  This is all about Inside Out!

In August a team of people from Nidd Valley Churches helped to run a stall at the Ripley Show.

We were joined by volunteers from YWAM (Youth With A Mission). This year they were from Brazil. We all had a great time at the show. We gave out lots of bags with goodies in and chatted with people who passed by. Some of our Brazilian friends prayed with some people. It was a good day.  This is helping with Inside Out, as it takes us to where people are, at a show enjoying themselves.  Look out for us next year!!

Before Christmas members from Harlow Hill sang carols at the Harlow Social Club and gave out angels….the angels also decorated the bar taps!!

Thanks to the people at the Social Club!!

These are pictures taken at the Christmas Charity Stall in Harrogate. You will see members of the Inside Out group helping.  The table is covered in angels….the colourful bags near the end of the pictures had them in as well.  They decorated the whole hut. We must have received nearly 500 angels knitted by people all around the circuit. You will see how colourful the angels were and they all had different characters and faces.  Above is a picture of the angels at the Harlow Social Club.  We went there on the Sunday after to sing carols all the people in the club were given angels as well and the last of them decorated the bar taps…everyone was very happy.   On the table are some of the things we gave out in the bags, such as Luke’s Gospels.

We would like to thank you all for your kindness and generosity of making the angels. You delighted so many people. Pray God will continue to bless the people who took them.

We will soon be telling you what we need for this Christmas 2026…believe it or not, I have already been asked what we want made for then!!

Finally, I included a picture of the clouds.  The morning of the stall the weather was awful, rain and some thunder and I was wondering what would happen that afternoon. Just as the picture shows, it was perfect for a December day…we didn’t get wet!! The sun shone! Jesus really is the Light of the World.

Thanks to you all.

Maltkiln – March 2026

There is a new development planned to start being built 18 months – 2 years from now. It is called Maltkiln.  It lies within the Nidd Valley Circuit. If we go past the A1 on A59 towards York, it will occupy a substantial part of the land near to Cattal railway station. If you know Cattal railway station you will know that there are often cars parked on the road next to it as there is no parking charge for being there. So, there are very good rail links from there to Leeds and York.

This development will eventually have up to 3,000 houses on it and there will be community facilities such as some shop(s) and a community hall / space. There have already been public enquiries into this development, and despite many people who already living there having spoken against it.   The final planning permissions are being sought. Building will begin, as I have mentioned earlier.

Kirk Hammerton is our nearest local Methodist Church it is about 1 mile away.  So, it will not be in this new development. There are no churches planned in this development, but we are seeking to ensure that any community facility includes a space that can be used for worship.

Can I ask your prayers for our role in this… how we are to be God’s people in this brand-new area with potentially 5,000 new people living there.  Please will you pray that we will have good relationships with developers and other local churches and clergy and that we will be a sign of God’s love to this new community.

From Gary
