What a privilege it was to be present in Coventry Central Hall to see our own minister Rev Grace Cauldwell being ordained on 30 June. 17 of us from Bilton, Killinghall and Hampsthwaite travelled down by coach on a glorious, sunny Sunday and arrived a good hour before the service started.
We found seats in the main hall where we had a good view and watched as the hall and its large gallery gradually filled so that by the time the service started at 4pm every seat was taken and there were late-comers standing at the back of the gallery.
We could see Grace and her family a few rows in front. CCH had been recently renovated and redecorated in pastel shades and looked resplendent with the sun shining through the windows up in the gallery. The magnificent organ accompanied the equally magnificent singing, as befitted the occasion, and the service proceeded according to the order of service, with the opening hymn being ‘Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim’.
The highlight came when Rev Dr Barbara Glasson, President of Conference, laid hands on each of the ordinands in turn. Another memorable moment was when Grace accompanied by Edward and Emily went forward and knelt at the communion rail ready to take communion. The service ended with communion being taken by the large congregation at 9 different stations.
