From Wesley Centre: While they may not have been good for the Stray, the UCI Championships were good for Wesley Centre! From an
initial phone call in early January to ‘Yorkshire 2019’ to enquire whether they might have a use for a large town centre building in
September, great things happened. As well as giving a warm welcome to hundreds of volunteers, we benefitted from rental income,
part of which allowed us to re-carpet the whole Centre. A good investment for the years ahead, already appreciated by our regular
Email received from UCI:
“To Pippa, Lynne, David and all staff at Wesley Centre, On behalf of the Yorkshire 2019 Volunteer Team, we would like to say a huge thank you to Wesley Centre Staff for allowing us to take over the Centre and transform it into our official volunteer centre for the 2019 UCI Road World Championships. Since our first site visit back in March, we have been blown away by the generosity from the team and how you helped transform what was already a beautiful building into a site fit for all Yorkshire Team Members to relax during their shifts
“We hope that during our time with you, we have given you an experience that you will al remember and that the entire Wesley
Centre and wider community enjoyed it too. Yorkshire Tea were blown away by how the Centre worked and how beautiful the
Centre was even before they Yorkshire-Tea-ified the place!
“So many volunteers that came through the door were also very complimentary, and many that work/live in Harrogate have said they will pay a visit after visiting the Wesley Centre. You provided a setting which helped us greatly to create some of the most informative, passionate and dedicated volunteers Yorkshire has ever seen! The morale from start to finish during the 2019 UCI Championships has been of the highest, and you have helped to achieve this the most. We are beyond grateful for your generosity to help us provide the best possible programme for the volunteers and for that we thank you very much!
“Please do pass this on to colleagues within the Wesley Centre and wider Harrogate Church Community.
